Williamstown head coach Scott Sauro’s Yellowjackets once again stood atop the Little Kanawha Conference following a second straight title game victory versus Webster County.

While Sauro was named LKC Coach of the Year for a second consecutive campaign, ‘Jacket junior Parker Schramm took top honors as Player of the Year.

Parker has worked so hard over the past two years to expand his game to be a complete player,” stated coach Sauro. “His work ethic is second to none.

“We are very lucky to have him and his leadership rubs off on a lot of our players in our program. He is a very deserving Player of the Year.”

Schramm, who was a key cog a year ago when WHS won 25 straight before falling to Charleston Catholic in the Class AA state semifinals, repeated on the first unit.

The Yellowjackets once again advanced to the state tournament, but came up short against Wheeling Central in the quarterfinals en route to a 21-4 campaign.

Schramm averaged 17.8 points a game to go along with 4.0 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.9 assists. He knocked down 78 treys, shot 50% from the field and drained 79% at the free-throw line.

“Parker and this group of juniors has not lost a conference game in the past two years,” added coach Sauro. “They are back-to-back LKC champions and looking forward to an opportunity to try to win a third. It says a lot about Parker’s game that most teams focused on him and he still was able to hit almost 80 threes this season.

“That being said, he isn’t a one-dimensional player. He was able to attack off the dribble this year which made him tougher to guard. I know that he will put in a lot of work to get even better this offseason.”

Wahama senior Sawyer Vanmatre, who led the White Falcons in scoring at better than 17 an outing, was the only first team All-LKC three-peat honoree.

Three other players joined Schramm as repeat selections on the first team – Webster County senior Rayden Triplett, Doddridge County senior Brandon Hileman and Wirt County senior Connor Hoover.

Triplett had the game-winning buzzer-beating bucket to sink two-time defending Class A state champ James Monroe in the quarterfinals before getting eliminated by Tucker County in the semifinals.

Triplett averaged 20 points, 6.9 rebounds 3.0 assists, 4.0 steals, canned 53 treys, shot 46% from the field and 73% from the charity stripe.

Hileman ended his career by helping the Bulldogs, who defeated Ravenswood in the LKC consolation game, reach the Class A state tournament for the first time in 18 years. The Bulldog averaged 16.7 points, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals, knocked down 50 triples, converted 46% from the floor and 73% at the line.

For the fourth consecutive year, Hoover helped the orange and black advance to the regional co-final before being ousted. The Tiger averaged 13.4 points, 6.2 rebounds. 1.5 assists, better than a block a game and also hit 33 3s, shot 47% overall and was true on 78% of his free-throw attempts.

A pair of sophomore pivots made the first unit in Braxton County’s Steve Boggs and Ritchie County’s Isaac Hodges, who averaged 20 points and 12.1 caroms while shooting 69% at the foul line and swatting better than two shots a night.

Ravenswood head coach Mick Price’s Red Devils were represented on the first team by seniors Beau Bennett and Logan Alfred.

The Red Devils advanced to the double-A state tournament as the No. 6 seed and knocked off defending champion Chapmanville before getting bounced by Charleston Catholic, which won it all after topping Bluefield.

Bennett averaged 13.6 points, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals connected on 59 trifectas and was a 68% shooter at the line. Alfred averaged 11.0 points, 4.6 boards, 3.1 dimes, 2.5 steals and shot 52% from the field.

Calhoun County, which had a 15-win campaign, was represented on the first team by senior Landon Bnenett (19.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.3 apg, 5.1 spg, 44 made threes, 45% FG, 73% FT).

Schramm was joined on the first unit by fellow junior teammates Jayden Bryant (15.3 ppg, 1.5 apg, 62 made 3s, 48% FG, 82% FT) and Cruz Isaly (8.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.7 spg, 48% FG).

Parkersburg Catholic’s Gideon Wilson, who finished with averages of 14.6 points, 7.4 caroms, 4.5 assists, 3.5 steals and drained four dozen treys, was named captain of the second team.

Joining him on the second team were Ravenswood teammates Evan Swain and Noah Dawson, Wahama teammates Bryce Zuspan and Eli Rickard, Tyler Consolidated’s Brady Strode, South Harrison’s Camron Evans, St. Marys’ Ashton Boron, Gilmer County’s Tyler Bush, Webster County’s Logan Leichliter, Roane County’s Cam Cumpston and Calhoun County’s Dylan Buckius.
